Another beautiful soul has left us. My heart break Another beautiful soul has left us. My heart breaks for Joni’s mama, and I can’t even begin to imagine dog camp without this sweet girl there every day.

Joni was my sidekick. She walked just behind me most of the time, always making sure that everyone was accounted for and that I didn’t need her “help” with anything. Most mornings she would trot along behind me until we got within sight of the beaches, at which point she would bolt ahead and be the first dog down to the beach. When I would catch up, she would be happily pawing at the water, barking joyfully at the splashes.

She was my go to dog for evaluating new dogs on their first day at camp. I would always have Joni meet the newbies first. She had the best personality for helping me gauge new dogs. If they were pushy, rude, or too excitable, I could count on her to appropriately tell them “that’s not how we operate”. When they were calm and slow with thejr greetings, I could almost see her give a “thumbs up” before she would saunter off and go enjoy the day.

Joni was also the unofficial stick fetcher of our pack. She always took it upon herself to find allllllll the sticks on the beach and bring them to me one at a time. If I sat down on a beach, within minutes I would have a pile of sticks for throwing. I think the other dogs will really miss her work ethic in the stick department.

I will miss it all. I’ll miss her wide, happy smile. I’ll miss her frantic barking at the splashes in the background of all my videos. I’ll miss her shiny, soft coat, and how her hair would crimp a little after she swam. I’ll miss her little “awoo” when she wanted to get my attention, and I’ll miss pulling up to her house each morning and watching her run to get in the van.

I hope she’s enjoying infinite snacks and frisbees in her next life, and I know she’s met up with our other campers who have passed and will be there to greet the rest when it’s their time. Rest In Peace sweet Joni.

We got to practice relaxation and appropriate behavior around a toddler (my toddler!) today! Does your dog know how to appropriately play and interact with tiny humans? Children can create a lot of excitement in dogs, so it’s important to help your dog understand boundaries and etiquette around them. Calm, relaxed energy is where it’s at when it comes to dogs and kids interacting.

The most pure and beautiful soul left us last week The most pure and beautiful soul left us last week. Sweet Lilly, you will be missed more than any words can describe. I am not sure that I will ever meet another dog who is as kind, gentle, and lovable as Lilly. Her personality was more like “the best friend you’ve had since childhood” over describing her as “a dog”. She was truly unlike any other dog I have ever spent time with.

Lilly and her mama were among some of GMCC’s very first clients. They go back to the early days of 2015/2016 where potty breaks and leashed walks were a service, and they came along the journey with me all the way to 2022 with hours of off leash hiking in a dog pack. To say that Lilly and her mom are dear to my heart is an understatement.

When I first started picking up Lilly, I would pull up and spot her adorable face with its perky little ears smooshed against the window waiting for me. As the years passed, our routine shifted to me finding her upstairs asleep in her house having not heard the dog camp van pull up. I would gently touch her soft ears and say “time for camp, Lills”. She would wake up with an expression that said “did I miss the bus???!!!” Man am I going to miss those big, soft ears. They were my favorite thing to pet while she sat down next to me in the sun on the beaches that we hiked to.

The hardest part about this job is also the best part about this job. Experiencing these dogs and their beautiful souls is such a gift. I have the privilege of getting to know each dog and building my own unique bond with them. They find their way into my heart and their owners in turn feel like friends and family to me. My heart is absolutely broken for Lilly’s mom, and I am devastated to think of a world without Lilly’s beautiful face in it. My wish is for everyone to be so lucky as to have known a dog like Lilly. Rest In Peace, beautiful girl. You brought so much joy into this life. I am certain that your next life will be everything you want and deserve.

Meet Chaunce! He just completed an off leash recal Meet Chaunce! He just completed an off leash recall training package with us and is out with the packs on Monday and Wednesday this week for trial days…

His mama sent him to his first day of school with treats to share with the class, so he made fast friends and seems to fit right in! I mean, laying down in the mud on your first day? Power move 😉
